Joshua w/o training wheels
Joshua figures out how to ride without training wheels on his second attempt, by himself.
What a surprise this past Sunday when Joshua decided to try riding his bicycle without training wheels. The first attempt didn't go well as he wasn't "in the mood" to try something new. This time it was his idea and he remembered everything we talked about the first time. He started by just pushing off with his feet and balancing the bike. We previously discussed that just like his scooter it's easier to keep your balance when the scooter/bicycle is moving. So before I could even get there to help (old fashioned holding the seat) he started peddling to see what he could do without my help. By the second attempt he was riding his bike without too much difficulty, provided it's NASCAR style (only going left in a circle).
At the moment he doesn't like going straight up/down the street and doesn't think he can go right. He was extremely upset while trying to ride because he'd put his feet down or run into the neighbor's grass (specifically Mr. Pat's yard). That's the perfectionist child we were warned about last year during his first year of Kindergarten. Regardless he did an awesome job and wanted to go out again today but there just wasn't time after school, swim, dinner, homework, etc. (the life of a 1st grader).
